My name is Haley Olson and I am an 11th grader at CFEG. I have loved reading ever since I learned how and I’ve always been drawn to storytelling.

My graphic novel follows Olivia, a girl who has recently realized she is part of the LGBT+ community and is navigating what it means to find her place in the world.

Story Snapshot

The story centers on Olivia’s journey to find community and acceptance— people who will see her, know her, and love her for who she truly is.

As she moves through school, friendships, and family relationships, Olivia faces moments of misunderstanding and rejection, but also experiences hope, solidarity, and support.

The social justice theme of this novel is about the right to belong, to be safe, and to be accepted for your full identity.

Why This Story Matters

I was inspired by real stories I’ve heard from LGBT+ people, and by having friends and family in the LGBT+ community.

Many people spend years searching for spaces where they can be honest about who they are without fear. I wanted to highlight how powerful it is when someone finally finds that kind of community.

My hope is that this story helps readers understand how important it is to create warm, welcoming spaces for LGBT+ people—and for anyone who is still figuring out where they belong.
